“Sexuality in Adolescents with Autism and Concrete Learners”

This presentation will focus on the issues related to puberty for adolescents with autism and for individuals of all ages who have intellectual difficulties and autism. Specifically discussed will be social rules around touching oneself or others, modesty, and privacy, safety concerns, body changes during puberty, and masturbation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify concerns and issues related to puberty and sexuality in adolescents and concrete learners with autism.

2. Discuss strategies related to teaching appropriate behaviors around the issues of puberty and sexuality in adolescents and concrete learners with autism.

3. Be aware of potential safety issues for individuals with autism.
