Five-Day Classroom Training – Elementary Through High School, Ages 6-21 (On-Site in Pittsboro, NC)

This five-day course provides a theoretical foundation as well as hands-on opportunities to assess and teach school-aged children on the autism spectrum in a demonstration classroom setting. The premise of this foundation is an understanding of the learning styles of individuals with autism and how to use teaching strategies that capitalize on learning strengths.
An emphasis is placed on the use of Structured TEACCHing principles and other evidence-based practices to teach children and adolescents with autism skills in the areas of academics, communication, independence, social and leisure, stress reduction routines and coping strategies, and vocational.
Participants will have an opportunity to apply these strategies with students of varying ages and developmental levels in a classroom setting. The training includes presentations, small group discussions, demonstration classroom activities, and hands-on experiences for five consecutive days.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Applications of TEACCH Principles and Practices Seminar (In-Person Event in Pittsboro, NC)

The in-person Beyond the Basics is an 18-hour training designed as continuing professional development for individuals who previously completed the Five-Day Hands-On Training. Topics addressed include extensions of the content presented at the TEACCH Five-Day training that will help professionals move beyond the basic implementation of Structured TEACCHing concepts as well as strategies for coaching and supporting other professionals.
This three-day seminar will include presentations, discussions, and case studies. Participants will work in small groups to complete learning assignments.

Strategies for Success in General Education for Individuals with Autism (VIRTUAL)

The Strategies for Success in General Education is a 12-contact-hour training that will focus on strategies to support educating students on the autism spectrum, ages 5-18 who spend the majority of their day in the general education classroom following the standard course of study. Participants will learn about the characteristics and learning styles of autism and strategies to address educational and social emotional issues that affect success in the general education classroom.
