Five-Day Classroom Training – Elementary Through High School, Ages 6-21 (Chapel Hill, NC)

This five-day course provides a theoretical foundation as well as hands-on opportunities to assess and teach school-aged children on the autism spectrum in a demonstration classroom setting. The premise of this foundation is an understanding of the learning styles of individuals with autism and how to use teaching strategies that capitalize on learning strengths.
An emphasis is placed on the use of Structured TEACCHing principles and other evidence-based practices to teach children and adolescents with autism, skills in the areas of academics, communication, independence, social and leisure, stress reduction routines and coping strategies, and vocational.
Participants will have an opportunity to apply these strategies with students of varying ages and developmental levels in a classroom setting. The training includes presentations, small group discussions, demonstration classroom activities, and hands-on experiences for five consecutive days.

Fundamentals of Structured TEACCHing (VIRTUAL)

The Fundamentals of Structured TEACCHing is an 18-contact-hour training that will provide participants with an overview of the learning styles of autism and Structured TEACCHing for school-aged students. Structured TEACCHing is based on the understanding of the symptoms and learning styles of individuals on the autism spectrum and the use of visual supports to provide meaning, promote independence and capitalize on the individual’s strengths. Participants will also learn antecedent-based behavior management strategies using Structured TEACCHing principles.

Five-Day Classroom Training – Early Childhood, Ages 3-8 (Chapel Hill, NC)

This five-day course provides a theoretical foundation as well as hands-on opportunities to assess and teach preschool and early elementary-aged children on the autism spectrum in a demonstration classroom setting. The premise of this foundation is an understanding of the learning styles of individuals with autism and how to use teaching strategies that capitalize on learning strengths.
An emphasis is placed on the use of Structured TEACCHing principles and other evidence-based practices to teach young children with autism, skills in the areas of communication, social and play, stress reduction routine and coping strategies, and early academic skills.
Participants will have an opportunity to apply these strategies with students of varying ages and developmental levels in a center-based classroom setting during group and individual activities. The training includes presentations, small group discussions, demonstration classroom activities, and hands-on experiences for five consecutive days.

The Strategies for Success in General Education is a 12-contact-hour training that will focus on strategies to support educating students on the autism spectrum, ages 5-18 who spend the majority of their day in the general education classroom following the standard course of study. Participants will learn about the characteristics and learning styles of autism and strategies to address educational and social emotional issues that affect success in the general education classroom.

Using CARS-2 as Part of a Diagnostic Assessment, and Differential Diagnosis & Co-Morbidity (Virtual)

This workshop is meant for professionals who are conducting in-depth diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum disorders and are looking for another tool to add to their assessment battery. Diagnostic evaluations are best conducted with multiple sources of information including direct assessments of the individual and reports from caregivers/parents who can speak to the individual’s developmental history. The CARS2 is an instrument that works well as a way to integrate diagnostic information. It is not meant for individuals who are doing screenings for autism or who work in primary care settings and are not doing in-depth evaluations.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Applications of TEACCH Principles and Practices Seminar (In-Person Event in Pittsboro, NC)

The in-person Beyond the Basics is an 18-hour training designed as continuing professional development for individuals who previously completed the Five-Day Hands-On Training. Topics addressed include extensions of the content presented at the TEACCH Five-Day training that will help professionals move beyond the basic implementation of Structured TEACCHing concepts as well as strategies for coaching and supporting other professionals.
This three-day seminar will include presentations, discussions, and case studies. Participants will work in small groups to complete learning assignments.

Seeing the Spectrum: Understanding Autism and Beyond (Hybrid TEACCH Conference)
