Aitza Galarza-Hernández is a Staff Psychologist at the Wilmington TEACCH Center and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UNC Department of Psychiatry. She is a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience working with children and adolescents focusing her clinical work on completing diagnostic evaluations and providing support to children and their families. Her work has also included teaching, mentoring, and supervision. As a bilingual and bicultural psychologist, Aitza’s specialty and interest is working with Latine families, completing linguistically and culturally sensitive evaluations. These evaluations include the areas of developmental disabilities, behavioral and social-emotional deficits, and learning disabilities. She has also served on several state and local boards focusing her work on facilitating access to behavioral health and educational services and supports to all children and their families. As a Wilmington TEACCH Center Staff Psychologist, Aitza conducts diagnostic interviews and autism evaluations, particularly with Latine clients. In addition, she collaborates with other professionals within the TEACCH program to provide support and training to Latine families.
