Fundamentals of Structured TEACCHing Training Virtual Training
November 18 - November 20
The Fundamentals of Structured TEACCHing is an 18-contact-hour training that will provide participants with an overview of the learning styles of autism and Structured TEACCHing. Structured TEACCHing is based on the understanding of the symptoms and learning styles of individuals on the autism spectrum and the use of visual supports to provide meaning, promote independence and capitalize on the individual’s strengths. Participants will also learn antecedent-based behavior management strategies using Structured TEACCHing principles.
This nine-session training will include presentations, videos, interactive discussions, and small group activities. While this is a strong foundational training, this does not meet any prerequisites for TEACCH Professional Certification.
Objectives: At the completion of training, participants will be able to:
Identify learning styles of individuals on the autism spectrum
Design the physical organization of learning spaces
Develop individualized schedules and work systems
Develop meaningful visual structure that promotes independence with educational, leisure, and daily living activities
Implement an antecedent-based behavior problem-solving approach to engage students in the expected behavior
Target Audience:
This course is designed for educators, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, as well as others interested in educational strategies for children on the autism spectrum, ages 5 – 21, who spend the majority of their day in separate setting classrooms with potentially some push-out services.
Please note, that although this training includes high-school-aged students, the focus is on Structured TEACCHing strategies and not transition planning.
