Target Audience:
This course is designed for teachers, psychologists, itinerant teachers, as well as researchers, clinicians, and others interested in educating students with Autism and related communication disabilities.
Content:
Since 1972, TEACCH has coordinated the nation’s largest statewide public-based educational and treatment program for children with Autism and related communication handicaps. With IDEA ’97 (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997) emphasizing least restrictive settings, more people with Autism and other behavior, learning and communication disorders are being served in an array of school and community settings. This has increased the need for comprehensive in-service training for teachers and other professional working with them. TEACCH, a division of the Medical School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, provides training to teachers and other professionals around the world.Objectives:
In this workshop participants will…
- learn how to design highly individualized and effective modifications that take advantage of an individual’s unique strengths, peak skills and high interest areas to work on deficits.
- learn how to develop strategies utilizing organizational and visual structuring methods to make expectations cleared for individuals with Autism.
- work with individuals with Autism of varying ages and ability levels in classroom or vocational settings.
- prepare structure to teach in a variety of curriculum areas including academic, vocational, communication, leisure, and social.
Continuing Education Credits:
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available to those participants attending all scheduled activities. Your tuition will cover the costs of the CEUs.
Selection:
There are limited slots available for each training session. Final deadline for receipt of applications and payments is June 20, 2012. When all spaces are filled, applicants will be wait-listed and admission will be made on an “as available” or stand-by basis.

Out-of-state $1,300.00
Fees include registration, a light continental breakfast, lunch on-site, and snacks each day, training materials, and Continuing Education Units (only for those who attend all 5 days). Fees do not include travel or accommodations.
