Target Audience:Parents and caregivers of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders Content:The day includes small and large group discussion, presentations, and a hands-on Make It Take It component. The intended audience is parents or other caregivers of newly diagnosed children with an autism spectrum disorder and more experienced parents who want to implement structured teaching strategies at home with their children. We will address issues relevant to children of all ages and ability levels. Presentations and discussion will focus on the TEACCH approach to understanding the behavior of children with autism and equipping parents to use structured teaching to prevent difficult behaviors and teach new skills.Objectives:- Learn how to show your child what to expect, what's next when they will be finished, and how much - Use these skills to help head off troublesome behaviors - Teach him/her how to become more independent through the use of schedules and visual aids Continuing Education Credits:No CEUs are offered for this workshop. Selection:Registration is based on a first come, first served basis for a maximum number of 25 participants. Please return completed registration form with payment by February 1, 2012. A substitute participant may be designated in place of a registrant who cannot attend.
