Target Audience:

Parents and caregivers of pre-school aged children with autism spectrum disorders who are preparing for the transition to kindergarten. This workshop will be most beneficial for parents of children who will be included in a regular education setting with typically developing peers.

Content:

The day includes presentations and large group discussion focused on strategies to build communication, social, and play skills, to prepare children for entry into the kindergarten classroom environment. The TEACCH approach to understanding the behavior of children with will be used to help problem solve behaviors that might influence learning and plan ways to minimize potential behavioral difficulties.

Objectives:

- Recognize the characteristics of autism that may affect a parent’s chilld’s learning in a kindergarten classroom.
- Learn strategies to help promote the development of communication skills, social and play skills as related to the classroom environment.
- Assist their child’s teachers in the interpretation and management of challenging behaviors

Cost:

In-state residents $50.00 per person; Out of state residents is $100.00 per person. This fee is due with your completed registration form. Please do not bring unregistered family members.

CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations received less than three business days are subject to a $25 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be granted after the program has begun. A substitute participant may be designated in place of a registrant who cannot attend. TEACCH reserves the right to cancel, post-pone or combine class sections; to limit registration; or to change instructors. TEACCH will make every effort to notify participants as soon as possible of any changes or cancellations. Participants should consider the possibility of change or cancellation when opting for non-refundable travel arrangements.
