Content:Since 1972, Division TEACCH has coordinated the nation's largest statewide education and treatment program for children and adults with autism and related communication handicaps. With IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) emphasizing least restrictive settings, more people with autism and other severe behavior, learning and communication disorders are being served in an array of school and community settings. This has increased the need for comprehensive in-service training. Division TEACCH, a division of the Medical School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, provides training programs to teachers and other professionals from around the world. Objectives:• Increase participants’ familiarity with the characteristics of autism and with the learning styles of students with autism. Continuing Education Credits:Only contact hours of attendance will be provided for participants to use when obtaining credits from their own school systems.
