Description:This course is designed as continuing professional development for teachers, speech clinicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and other professionals working in the field of autism. Target Audience:This course is designed for school administrators, teachers, teaching assistants, speech therapists, occupational therapist, psychologist, and other professionals who have previously participated in the 5-day hands-on intensive TEACCH Training. This course is three full days in length and enrolls 30 participants. The format of this course is lecture, discussion and case studies/ scenarios presented via DVD with participants working in small groups for active learning assignments. Content:Since 1972, TEACCH has coordinated the nation’s largest statewide public based educational and treatment programs for persons with autism and related communication handicaps. With current educational mandates emphasizing "least" restrictive settings, many more children with autism and other related behavior syndromes are being served in public schools, thus creating a need for in-service training activities for teachers. For over thirty years, TEACCH has made its training activities available to educational and adult services staff and other professionals from around the world.Objectives:This course will be helpful to participants by:
Continuing Education Credits:The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been authorized to award Continuing Education Units (CEUs). CEUs will be available to those participants attending all scheduled activities. Your tuition will cover the cost of the CEUs. Licensing boards, certifying bodies, and regulatory agencies may differ in the way they recognize the CEU in fulfilling necessary professional credit. Participants should contact their local licensing boards to determine the appropriateness of CEUs toward re-certification credits. Selection:Space is limited. This fee includes all course materials, dinner on Monday, snacks and lunches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This fee does not include travel or accommodations. Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) serves Chapel Hill and is located approximately 15 miles from the training site. Ground transportation is available at the airport.
