Description:

Using Structured Teaching with Adults in Vocational and Residential Programs is a two-day workshop designed to help participants design and implement individualized strategies for adults across the autism spectrum. Training participants will have an opportunity to develop schedules, work systems, and activities for adults on the autism spectrum.

Target Audience:

This course is designed for residential and vocational service providers and other professionals and paraprofessionals who work with adults with ASD.

Content:

Since 1972 TEACCH has coordinated the nation's largest statewide public-based educational and treatment programs for children and adults on the autism spectrum. Our training content is the result of decades spent learning from children and adults with autism about how they learn best, and what we can do to support their inclusion in educational, community and vocational setting.

Objectives:

Using lectures, small group activities, a panel of parents and adults, as well as case examples and other activities this workshop will provide:

  1. A greater understanding of adults with autism spectrum disorder, including differences in communication, social cognition, sensory experience and restricted / routines
  2. Understanding of structured teaching strategies and how these strategies have been developed based om the characteristics of ASD

Continuing Education Credits:

CEU's will not be offered at this workshop, however a Certificate of Completion, including contact hours, will be available at the conclusion of the workshop.

Selection:

There are limited slots available for each training session. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first- served basis. Final deadline for receipt of applications and payments is April 9, 2012. Spaces fill quickly.

• Payment for tuition should be made payable to TEACCH-Asheville and received by the first day of the training.
• Notification of acceptance will be mailed as applications are received. If the class reaches full capacity, participant will be notification of wait list status.

Fee includes registration, breakfast food, snacks beverages and supplies.
Fee does not include travel meals, or accommodations.
