Description:This workshop will address strategies that have successfully contributed to a reduction in behavior problems with students on the autism spectrum. It will include a review of the characteristics of autism that often lead to behavioral issues, a review of Structured Teaching strategies that have been proven helpful, presentation and discussion of additional tools for managing behaviors. Target Audience:This course is designed for special education teachers, assistant teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals who work with children who have autism spectrum disorders. Content:This two day workshop will focus on understanding how autism affects behavior and then developing individualized strategies for students on the autism spectrum. Lectures, small group activities and a parent panel will be incorporated into the two days.Objectives:At the conclusion of training, participants will be able to: • Recognize characteristics of autism and how structured teaching can be used to address behavior issues. Continuing Education Credits:CEU's will not be offered for this training however a Certificate of Completion will be given at the end of the training. The certificate will include training contact hours. Selection:• Complete the application form. There are limited slots available for each training session.
