Ready, Set, Go: A "Hands-on" Training for Setting up the Learning Environment for Young Children with ASD (Wilmington)


Training Details: 

The training program is held daily from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Please arrive 15-30 minutes early on the first day of training for event registration. 

Description:

This two-day training will provide a theoretical foundation, as well as hands-on opportunities including: physically setting up an individualized learning environment, skill assessment, and developing and making activities.  Effective teaching strategies for young children with ASD in a preschool, clinic, or home setting will be presented. At the end of the training, participants will have an opportunity to make tasks to take back to their setting in the classroom, clinic or home.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the learning needs of young children with autism
  • Develop individualized Structured TEACCHing Strategies to address the individual's learning needs 
  • Use elements of physical structure to address individualized needs in the learning environment (classroom, clinic or home) 
  • Use assessment information to develop appropriate visual supports to encourage the child’s best understanding, attention, and participation
  • Implement strategies to encourage successful collaboration with parents of a young child with ASD
  • Use assessment information to develop meaningful, individualized teaching goals and activities
  • Develop and make teaching activities to promote social engagement and play skills

Target Audience:

This training is designed for Infant Toddler Service Providers, Preschool Service Providers, Preschool Teachers, Speech and Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, as well as others interested in educating Toddlers and Preschool aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ages 2-5).
